New Delhi: Cricketer-turned-politician Harbhajan Singh, Misa BhartiFormer Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav’s daughter and BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla was on Monday sworn in as a Rajya Sabha member along with around 25 other leaders.
Others include A Rao Meena, Vijay Sai Reddy, Khiru Mahto, Shambhala Saran Patel, Ranjit Ranjan, Maharashtra Manjhi, Aditya Prasad, Praful Patel, Imran Pratapgarhi, Sanjay Raut, Sasmit Patra, Sandeep Kumar Pathak and Vikramjit Singh Sahni,
Randeep Singh Surjewal, P Chidambaram, Kapil Sibal, R Girl Rajan, S Kalyan Sundaram, KRN Rajesh Kumar, Javed Ali Khan, V vijendra prasad Others were also among those who took oath today.
Noted former athlete PT Usha (from Kerala) and legendary musician Ilaiyaraaja (from Tamil Nadu) could not attend Rajya Sabha to take oath due to some reasons.
Newly elected members of various political parties took oath on the first day of the monsoon session of Parliament.
Later, tribute references were read in respect of several dignitaries who passed away recently.
The Rajya Sabha also paid tributes to former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, former UAE President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and former Kenyan President Mwai Kibaki.
Tributes were also paid to former members Kishore Kumar Mohanty, Robert Kharsing, KK Veerappan and santoor player Pandit Shivkumar Sharma.
Later, PC Modi, Secretary General of the Rajya Sabha also laid a statement (in English and Hindi) on the Bills passed by the Houses of Parliament and assented by the President during the two hundred and fifty-sixth session of the Rajya Sabha.
Later, after the disruption in the proceedings of the House, a ruckus was witnessed by the members of the opposition party, forcing the House to be adjourned for the whole day.
