New Delhi: An Army captain and a junior commissioned officer were killed in an accidental grenade explosion on Monday along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district. Army personnel were on duty at the time of the incident in Mendhar sector of Poonch late on Sunday night, according to the army’s public relations officer, news agency PTI reported. He said the army captain and the Naib-Subedar (JCO) were immediately airlifted to Udhampur for treatment. However, both died during treatment.

In May, the Indian Army lost seven soldiers after the vehicle they were traveling in fell into the Shyok River in Ladakh’s Turtuk sector. The vehicle fell to a depth of about 50-60 feet.
The Indian Army said, “A team of 26 soldiers was moving forward from the transit camp in Partapur to sub-sector Hanif. The vehicle skidded off the road and fell into the Shyok river, injuring everyone.” All 26 soldiers were shifted to an army field hospital and surgical teams from Leh were sent to Partapur. Later seven soldiers died.
In April, three soldiers were killed and five others injured when an army vehicle overturned in Kashmir’s Shopian district. The vehicle was on its way towards an encounter site in Budigam village.
