Market leader Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), is opening ‘bikers’ cafes’ at its outlets to take advantage of the growing popularity of motorcycling tours among the youth, more and more of whom are taking to the air in search of adventure – and insta Fame or a few thousand YouTube subscribers as an add-on.
The first of its kind bikers cafe – aptly named ‘Pit Stop’ – has come up at Indian Oil’s petrol pump between Shoghi and Shimla, 330 km north of Delhi, on the route taken by the traveling rider. transgender in Himachal Pradesh.
“The cafe provides a welcoming place to take a break and can accommodate several large groups at a time. Emergency medical assistance is also provided.” Tarsen BhartiThe dealer told TOI.
Bharti said that space was available in his pump, so he decided to try the concept suggested by the IOC a year ago. He declined to disclose his investments or returns, saying: “I haven’t had a second thought.”
IOC senior executive Piyush Mittal told TOI that by setting up such cafes, IOC is recognizing the “adventure streak among the youth” and also helps the dealers to supplement their income.
Other officials said the IOC could replicate the concept in other areas as well. IOC insiders said the idea came after field inputs pointed to 150 tour operators specializing in motorcycle tours, which are increasing day by day after the commissioning of the Rohtang tunnel. The biking tours start in the first week of June and continue till the first fortnight of October.
