Pakistan boat capsizes At least 19 women belonging to a wedding party drowned on Monday when a boat capsized in the Indus river near the Punjab and Sindh border region in Pakistan.

Officials said extensive searches were being conducted to find other members of the wedding party, which included 100 people from a clan in Machhka, about 65 km from Rahim Yar Khan.

Rahim Yar Khan Deputy Commissioner Syed Musa Raza told the media that around 30 rescuers, including expert swimmers, five ambulances and a water rescue van, were present at the spot in the rescue operation.

“Nineteen bodies, all women, have been pulled out of the water while we are searching for the remaining passengers,” he said. Raza said other people were still missing after the boat capsized due to overloading and strong current. “There could be more casualties,” he said.

The wedding party of 100 people was returning from Rajanpur in Punjab to Machhaka when the incident happened. Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has expressed grief and condolences over the incident.
