Watch: PM Modi casts his vote to elect the new President

Prime Minister Narendra Modi casts his first vote as the voting process for the 16th Presidential Election gets underway in Parliament on 18 July at 10 am.

NDA candidate Draupadi Murmu is pitted against United Opposition candidate Yashwant Sinha in the much-awaited election to elect the next President of India.

Voting began at 10 am amid tight security arrangements and will continue till 5 pm.

The Election Commission of India said in June that 4,809 voters of MPs and MLAs would vote to choose the successor of the incumbent Ram Nath Kovind.

Counting of votes will take place in the national capital on July 21 after ballot papers from all the states are brought here. Kovind’s term ends on July 24
